Recreation in Farmington Valley and West Hartford
Farmington Valley offers many great hiking trails to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Nearby Litchfield offers one of my favorite places to mountain bike and hike, White Memorial Conservation Area. There is a with a wonderful museum at White Memorial for learning about nature.
West Hartford Metropolitan District has several reservoirs to hike in. One of my favorites is RT44 where you can hike up to Heublein Tower from the back.
Talcott Mountain is a favorite family hike in Simsbury. If you can climb the stairs in Heublein Tower you will have panoramic views of Sleepy Giant State Forest, Hartford, MT Tom MA and the mountains of Litchfield hills.
Granby offers McLean Game Refuge and Enders State Forest with a beautiful waterfall. Penwood State Park in Simsbury is great to hike in the winter as well as Stratton Brook State Park. Farmington offers the Canal Heritage Trail and Farmington River Trail.
Running is very popular around the 5 reservoirs in West Hartford.

The Farmington Valley Bike Trail runs from New Haven to Massachusetts. You will find runners, walkers, cyclists, and skaters enjoying this peaceful trail free of traffic.
Cross Country Skiing at Winding Trails, Farmington CT
Cross country skiing is available all over the Farmington Valley. Popular places are Winding Trails Recreation Area, McLean game Refuge, Stratton Brook State Park, golf courses, and reservoirs. Families enjoying sledding at Winding Trails Recreation Area.
If you don’t have a bike you can rent them at many of the local bike shops, Fitzgerald’ s Grocery Store, or Collinsville Canoe.
Downhill Skiing a local mountains: Ski Sundown , Mohawk Mountain or Mount Southington Ski Area.
